Overview

Watershed Authorities (GWWA) was founded in 1992 to compliment
Gitxsan Aboriginal Title research work initiated in the 1970’s.
Since then, Gitksan Watershed Authorities’ (GWA) principal
focus has been fisheries management that helps to ensure strong
returns of wild salmon populations to the Gitxsan Territories.
This also helps ensure abundant Gitxsan sustenance use and benefits.
The GWA takes pride in the fact, that the Gitxsan have always
managed their resources in a manner that allows for sustainable
use, and is well aware that the use of traditional knowledge
has been left in their trust to manage the resources of the
land. This awareness and knowledge will be the basis on which
to ensure the longevity of these resources for all to enjoy!
